Food Journal: Day 86 (Heidi)

Today was one of those days.

Breakfast: Cheerios. No banana. They were mushy and gross.
Snack: Chobani yogurt, cherry flavor. (I really have to eat breakfast that is more balanced or I go and ruin the entire day with the munchies)
Lunch: I sort of grazed/snacked throughout the day. Pretzels, string cheese, fruit strips (2).
Snack: continuation of "lunch", more pretzels and 2 marshmallows.
Dinner: Went out with the kids, but didn't feel like eating McDonalds. Waited for something else and wound up eating another turkey sub at Subway. I had chips and a diet coke too.

Food Journal: Day 85 (Katie)

Hi all! Still on vacation so I'm still doing this from my phone :) I'm also not anticipating my diet to new that great...and frankly I don't care! Ha!
Breakfast: a small bowl of fruit loops with whole milk.
Lunch: ham sandwich on white bread with ranch dressing and cheese and some potato chips and a Coke.
Snack: in American Falls they have this great little pharmacy that has an old fashioned soda counter. They make the best milkshakes and you get it in an old fashioned milkshake glass...you also get the big silver cup they mixed it in and it has enough extra to full your cup again. I ate both of them. :) then I had a glass of Coke and a few crackers.
Dinner: a steak, some boiled potatoes with country gravy on them and some corn. I also had a glass of whole milk.
Snack: two baby cupcakes and I'll probably (almost certainly) have a drink of some kind later tonight.

Food Journal: Day 84 (Kim)

I got to spend a good part of the day with Evan (Heidi's youngest), he came over for a sleepover. My intentions were good but I ate like crap so I will just get it over with and move on... :)

Breakfast: One mini bagel with strawberry cream cheese, a banana and a glass of whole milk.

Snack: 4 E.L. Fudge cookies.

Lunch: Turkey and cheese sandwich.

Snack: String cheese.

Dinner: Four square slices of pizza, two Pizza Hut breadsticks and three of their Cinna Sticks.

I also drank way more soda than I care to admit. I did drink a fair amount of water though so that is good.

Food Journal :Day 83 (Heidi)

I'm still the hold up. Sorry.

Breakfast: I've grown tired of oatmeal and have switched to cheerios and a banana. :)
Lunch: We have been so busy, today I grabbed Subway, they have a really good turkey/avocado/spinach sandwich and I'm good with not putting any cheese or mayo on this because the avocado is so tasty!
Snack: Goldfish crackers, a diet Dr. Pepper, and string cheese.
Dinner: Curry. With chicken and brown rice. Shawn does this so well, it's one of my faves!
Snack: No bake cookies that I made for dessert/bedtime snack.

Food Journal: Day 82 (Katie)

I'm going to write this post using my cell phone, which I've never done so you might have to bare (bear? Anyone know the origin of that saying?!) With me on any formatting errors. Also with any spelling, grammar or punctuation errors as it's not easy to even see the entire post on here or go back and edit it! And since I'm on vacation I won't have as much access to a computer.
This is for Thursday before we left so it's a bit of a chaotic day for me.
Breakfast: carnation instant breakfast.
Snack: nothing! I was busy and before I knew it the kids were begging for lunch!
Lunch: pb&j on wheat with a handful of before straws and a Coke.
Snack: 2 brownies and a glass of milk.
Dinner: since it was our anniversary we went out to Outback Steak House. I had some bloomin' onion, some bread with butter, half a pork chop, green beans and a few bites of mashed potatoes. I also had a pina colada.
Snack:I intended to easy an ice cream bar but I forgot until I was to tired so I went to bed instead. :)

Food Journal: Day 81 (Kim)

We are finally home from the hospital and the little one seems to be doing really well. Keep your fingers crossed that she stays that way for a while now. And, things are back to normal, therapy appointments, meetings, Dr. appointments and Katie's kids all crammed into my daily life. I LOVE IT!

I feel like I did pretty good today.

Breakfast: Carnation Instant Breakfast, toast with natural peanut butter.

Lunch: Tuna sandwich, a few pieces of a Korean Pear and a string cheese.

Snack: Klondike bar.

Dinner: Burgundy Beef, a slice of french bed and two ears of corn.

Snack: Slice of cheese.

I also have been looking into joining a gym, Katie is going to join with me so that we can go together sometimes. We decided to go with Chuze Fitness. Has anyone ever used this gym? What are the perks and downsides?

Food Journal: Day 80 (Heidi)

Ok, I'm not sure what my deal is with this. Maybe 100 days is feeling too long, or boring for me. I apologize for the delay. I'm a constant hold up.

Breakfast: Toast with peanut butter and a glass of milk.
Lunch: pepperoni slices, a laughing cow cheese, wheat thins and grapes.
Snack: gold fish crackers and a fruit strip.
Dinner: homemade turkey burritos, lettuce, cheese, and sourcream.
Snack: 3 otter pops.

Food Journal: Day 79 (Katie)

So I slacked again and got us behind...again.  This post is for Monday.

Breakfast: Carnation Instant breakfast

Snack: Fruit Snacks and a Dr. Pepper

Lunch: A pulled pork sandwich with BBQ sauce, some cranberry type salad from the deli that was leftover from the 4th.

Snack: a package of honey Teddy Grahams

Dinner: A turkey, bacon, avocado, tomato, lettuce and pesto sauce sandwich from Mimi's Cafe.  I thought it was yummy, Heidi also had it and thought it was disgusting.  I drank iced tea and had a roll with butter and a side of coleslaw.

Snack: Since it was girls night we went to Uswirl,  to get frozen yogurt.  I was better than I normally am (knowing that I had to write it down ;) ) and I got fat free pineapple mixed with coconut (which was low fat) then I topped it with pineapple, cherries, strawberries and blueberries and a sprinkle of toasted coconut.  It was super yummy!

Food Journal: Day 78 (Kim)

I can't believe how close we are to being done with the first 100 days. I am actually pretty excited to start the next one!

Breakfast: One biscuit with country style gravy, hashbrowns and orange juice.

Lunch: Three grilled chicken strips in a tortilla with lettuce, ranch (lite) and tomato and a small tater tot from sonic.

Dinner: Chinese take-outt. I had one egg roll, one wonton, about 1/2 cup of egg fried rice, about the same amount of cashew chicken, two pieces of sweet and sour chicken and a bowl of egg drop soup. Oh, and of course I had my fortune cookie.

Snack: Small chocolate dipped ice-cream cone.

I drank a lot of water and a glass of chocolate milk. I did not have any soda today. I am going to start easing back on that as well since I have not been very good at limiting myself to the 24 oz. per day. I think that I am going to try to go as many days without it and then when I really want it, I will allow myself one instead of drinking so much each day.

Food Journal: Day 77 (Heidi)

It feels great to be on track! Yay!

Today was a run around town, try to get the kids stuff for school, babysat my niece, and hung out with my sister after. :) Good day.

Took Evan out for lunch with the baby, we hit Wendy's, but it was an ok day over all.

Breakfast: Oatmeal and cherries. (I told you! Loving this right now)

Lunch: Crispy chicken sandwich (I know...) and a few fries. They didn't taste good. I also had a diet coke. I have not had any diet soda/fake sugar in over 2 weeks, I actually was feeling rushed, dealing with kids and ordered it out of *habit*. Weird. I drank half of a regular size and tossed the rest. I have had reduced arthritis pain, and it wasn't that good so I decided to just give it up.

Snack: Jerky and iced tea with stevia. Also a few bites of a "Korean Pear" which was kind of a melon, that reminded me of honeydew. Very good.

Dinner: Two bowls of sugar cereal. And a fruit strip.

Snack: More cherries.

So dinner was pathetic. I'll own it. :)

Food Journal: Day 76 (Katie)

Today was not my best showing.  Not my worst either, but I definitely could have made better choices.

Breakfast: A glass of milk. I'm still out of Carnation Instant Breakfast.

Snack: A package of Ritz Mini Cheese crackers.

Lunch: A Polish sandwich from Weinerschnitzel's (This is a polish sausage, a pickle spear and mustard on some kind of bread), about half a medium fry and a Dr. Pepper.

Snack: Chocolate Teddy Grahams.

Dinner: We went out to eat at a local place called Zona 78.  My husband loves their pizza.  I had trout with a butter sauce and covered in bacon, green beans, onions and red potatoes.  It was super delicious!  I also drank more Dr. Pepper and had 3 pieces of bruschetta with mozarella cheese (that they make in house!) a tomato and some kind of balsamic vinegar sauce.  Seriously, so delicious!.

Snack: This is where things got REALLY ugly!  I finally had to just go to bed!  On our way home we went to the USwirl frozen yogurt place where you get to pick all your toppings and you pay by the ounce.  I had chocolate and mint yogurt topped with chocolate chips and cookie dough pieces.  Then when we got home I snacked on a bowl of watermelon.  Then I drank a big glass of water because I was still craving something, then I had a 9oz cup full of puffy cheetos.  Then I had another big glass of water and made myself go to bed!

Food Journal: Day 75 (Kim)

Well it was a typical crazy day in my household today. Heidi's oldest Kira has been staying with me and helping me out with the kids and housework since yesterday and she has been a great help.  Katie's kids were here for part of the day so it was pretty wild for a while. We had lots of fun as usual and Olivia was enjoying their company and the normalcy of life. My other little angel had lots of company at the hospital from her bio-fam so we had the morning off from being there.

Breakfast: A bowl of Cherrios and a banana.

Lunch: Homemade (baked) chicken nuggets a few frozen french fries.

Snack: A Laughing Cow cheese and a couple of graham crackers.

Dinner: Turkey roast, three potato wedges, fresh fruit salad (mango, kiwi, pineapple and grapes)

Snack: Microwave popcorn (movie theater style)

I drank two small glasses of chocolate milk with dinner, a 12 oz. can of Mt. Dew, lots of mineral water with and without Vanilla Stevia, a couple glasses of water, a glass of apple juice and a Kool-Aid Burst (yuck).

I find that on days that my house is bustling with children and I am keeping busy, I eat less and I don't feel hungry as often.

Food Journal: Day 74 (Heidi)

Fourth of July. I would get a holiday! :0P But I didn't do to bad. Katie and Terry kindly hosted a party for all and it was lots of fun. I did have dessert but only in moderation, and it wasn't too bad! :)

Breakfast: Oatmeal and cherries again. I'm loving this right now.

Lunch: Leftover Eegee's sandwich (It's a local place), I had about 3 inches of a 3 foot sub. and a cup of raspberries. Seriously love this time of year. Fresh berries, cherries, yum!

Dinner: Roasted terryaki chicken, spinach salad with strawberries, a zucchini/potato/tomato/ baked dish that my sil brough, it was soooo yummy, and a serving of chips and dip.

Snack: I had a small sample of texas sheet cake and two brownies. :)

We set off some of our own(coughillegalcough) fireworks, and then tried to watch the cities show. Apparently there was a medical emergency for one of the firework technicians, unrelated to the fireworks, so the show stopped for over half and hour. We gave up and just headed home around ten. But it was a great time anyway. :)

Food Journal: Day 73 (Katie)

This day is actually being written on the day that it happened!  That's definitely a new one for me recently!

Breakfast: We are out of Carnation Instant breakfast *gasp*! So I had to stop after dropping the kiddos off and grab a breakfast burrito from the local convenience store and I also got a 32 oz Dr. Pepper.  Not my best choice but I am still recovering from the weekend and I had to have my 8 year old out the door by 7 this morning to head up to Idaho to spend two weeks with his grandparents.  Since I only got him back from my sister yesterday (and I had to work too) I had to stay up late doing laundry. (*yes, these are all fantastic excuses for eating like crap all day...)

Snack: Red Bull

Lunch: Three slices of lunch meat turkey, two slices of Swiss cheese, one slice of cheddar cheese and a little pack of Ritz mini cheese sandwich crackers.  I was going to just eat a sandwich but my bread was bad.

Snack: Two small handfuls of mini M&M's.

Dinner: My awesome husband stopped at IKEA on his way home from taking our son to the airport and got me meatballs, mashed potatoes and gravy from their Swiss food department!  So we had these and peas for dinner.  I also had a glass of milk.

Snack: I'm on my way to eat a brownie cookie that my sister brought me.  It's all chocolate so I'm definitely going to have to wash it down with some more milk!

Food Journal: Day 72 (Kim)

Well, I am not sure where all the rest of the posts are. I have done three (this one and day 66 will be waiting in drafts to be posted in the right order).

My sweet little angel is still hanging in the hospital but after having a rough couple of nights seems to be turning around again. I was up with her all night last night (until 5:30 this morning), I then got to sleep for about 2 hours before my day started.

I had some Cherrio's with milk a muffin and a very small glass of orange juice for breakfast.

I then snacked on about 10 Ritz crackers and three pieces of beef jerky and drank some water.

For lunch I had a small green salad with cottage cheese and a little ranch, a hard boiled egg and about 1/3 of a cup of frozen yogurt with chocolate syrup and a 20 oz bottle of Coke.

For dinner I had to escape from the hospital and spend some time with my hubby and my other little one so we went to  Red Lobster. I had two cheddar biscuits, shrimp scampy, a little more than half of a baked potato with butter and sour cream, two pieces of coconut shrimp and a few bites of Jason's crab legs. I also drank two large glasses of water.

Now I am going to take a bath, drink some more water and go to bed early. My goal is to be in bed by 9:00. Wish me luck.

Food Journal: Day 71 (Heidi)

July 1, a new month, and the last of this 100 day challenge.

Breakfast: french toast, and strawberries. Yum!
Lunch: Wheat thins, a laughing cow cheese wedge and turkey pepperoni, cherries.
Snack: 2 otter pops.
Dinner: Dinner was catered by Famous Daves for a big family get together, I had a chopped pork sandwich on a bun, a little bit of BBQ sauce, and about 1/4 of a chocolate chip cookie.(They were really big)
Snack I had chips and dip at the party too.

It was not terribly difficult to stay out of the food, I assigned myself pool side life guard duty, and just sat in the shade with a large glass of ice water. Worked well to stop the grazing of hanging out by the food.

Food Journal: Day 70 (Katie)

This should be an interesting post considering this day was right in the middle of my trip to Vegas.  I'm going to do my best but I didn't write anything down and I will most likely miss something along the way!

Breakfast: Blueberry muffin with streusal stuff on top, glass of orange juice and a cup of fresh fruit.

Snack: Glass of coke

Lunch: Buffalo wings and french fries and a glass of iced tea.

Snack: I didn't have one because I knew we were going to this great restaurant for dinner and I wanted to have lots of room!

Dinner: Super yummy steak (way too much!), potatoes with butter and garlic and a salad with honey mustard dressing.  Also a delicious alcoholic concoction called "Cherry Lemonade" that was so good I could have had two (But didn't ;))  And since they messed my steak up the first time I got a free chocolate pudding/cake type dessert too!

Snack: After watching La Reve we met up with some friends.  I had an iced chai tea and shared a pretzel with my husband then we sat at a Pai Gow table until 4 in the morning.  I just drank Coke though, and some of it was definitely after midnight so it doesn't count! :)

Food Journal: Day 69 (Kim)

Well we had a better day today. The baby is doing much better so the stress level was much lower. I also got to spend the whole day with my little Olivia.

Breakfast: Oatmeal and a slice of ham.

Lunch: Taco Salad (well part of it, this thing was huge)

Dinner: Salmon patty, half of a baked potato, a tomato and a big ol pile of mixed veggies.

Snack: A banana and two pieces of beef jerky.

I drank about 1.5 liters of water and about 15 oz of Pibb Extra.

Now I am off to bed in my own bed. My little one has a nurse all to herself tonight plus a respiratory therapist. So I am taking advantage of that and getting a good nights sleep.

Food Journal:Day 68 (Heidi)

I'm so confused and off track, and so the blog halt is at my feet. :) Sorry.

Breakfast for June 28: Cherries, Oatmeal with a little milk and cinnamon
Lunch: Mcdonalds...with my kid so I tried something new and it wasn't terrible. I had the premium bacon ranch salad, and then had the dressing in a cup and dipped my fork into it, and had roasted chicken breast. It was only 273 calories doing it that way, and I didn't finish all of the lettuce. Pretty decent.
Dinner Cucumber, and a California kitchen frozen pizza.
Snack: granny smith apple chips, strawberries, and graham crackers.

Food Journal: Day 67 (Katie)

Well we've definitely gotten ourselves off track again!  I guess that happens in the summer when we all get so busy!  I was out of town on a great trip to Las Vegas with JUST my sweet husband while Heidi took care of all of my kids (and she even survived!).  This post is for Wednesday, June 27th, which was the day before we left.

Breakfast:  Carnation instant breakfast.  I did have it with whole milk because the grocery store where my husband bought it the 1% was nearing expiration.  Normally we don't drink whole milk but I have to admit to loving it when we have it!

Snack: A can of Redbull.

Lunch: Turkey and Swiss cheese sandwich on white bread with mayo, grapes and fritos.

Snack: A handful of salted sunflower seeds and a diet Mt. Dew

Dinner: A bowl of noodles with honey walnut shrimp, 3 cream cheese wantons with sweet and sour sauce and iced tea at Panda Express.

Snack: A candy bar, but I honestly can't think of what kind.  Weird.

Food Journal: Day 66 ( Kim)

Well, it was another crazy day at my house starting with a 2:30 a.m. Wake up and a 3:30. a.m. Ride to the hospital in an ambulance with my 22 month old who decided that she didn't want to breath right on her own. She is doing better now but we are still at the hospital. I really don't know if I can remember all that I ate because it was a rough day and I forgot it was my day to blog. I know that mom brought me a Croisanwich, tater tots and a large Dr. pepper from Burger King for breakfast. This was at 7:30 and I was starving so I ate it all. For lunch Ihad a chicken cordon Bleau sandwich and a few tater tots with a 21 oz coke. For dinner I had some turkey pot roast. I had a single serve ice cream for a snack and honestly I don't remember if I ate anymore. Also, with the exception of today, I have have done really well only drinking 1-2 cans of soda and even had one day that I didn't have any. And, my hip isn't hurting...

Monday, June 25, 2012

Food Journal: Day 65 (Heidi)

Woohoo! Finally we are back on track. :)

So I've been doing My Fitness Pal, and that has proven very interesting. It also encourages me to work out! (Because people 'follow' you there and can see if you did it or not!) I really like it so far. One feature that has been fun is the pie chart that shows you graphically what you have eaten for the day.

Breakfast: Steel cut oats, 1 cup of milk and a cup of raspberries. Oh, if only I had a perpetual supply of raspberries. I love them so much. They don't grow here. And they cost a fortune. So lame. But I really enjoyed them today!

Snack: cottage cheese and cucumber slices and wheat thins.

Lunch: Calabacita's, I made mine with 3 oz of chicken, a can of tomatoes, 1 sm. zucchini, some garlic, and corn. Then I served it with a lo-carb tortilla, sour cream and some cheese.

Snack: popcorn

Dinner: Chicken burrito. (Apparently I was feeling the chicken/tomato/tortilla combo today)

:) I had tons of water, iced tea, and mineral water with vanilla stevia today too. I never think to write about my water intake, because I drink a lot. Plus since giving up diet soda, I drink even more water.

Food Journal: Day 64 (Katie)

A Sunday at the ball field!  It was so much fun!  I had a great day with my husband, kids and my parents.  And despite my 2 year old throwing up in the car on the way home I'll still count it among one of my favorite summer memories! :)

Breakfast:  Scrambled eggs with swiss cheese, 2 slices of bacon, some watermelon and some grapes.  Glass of milk.

Snack: A glass of Coke.

Lunch, etc. at the game: A hotdog with relish, mustard and ketchup, cup of Mt. Dew, 2 handfuls of cotton candy, a handful of peanuts in the shell, 1/2 a cup of chocolate and vanilla swirl frozen yogurt, 3 or 4 bites of red licorice rope.

Snack: Diet Mt. Dew on the drive home.

Dinner: SUPER late for me, around 9:30 because after we got home and got the kids in bed and the vomit cleaned out of the car I wasn't in the mood to cook something.  I had a cheeseburger, fries and Dr Pepper from In N Out.  Then I went to bed, exhausted!

So it could have been worse and though I ate all the things I wanted at the game I made sure I didn't eat too much of anything!

Saturday, June 23, 2012

Food Journal: Day 63 (Kim)

Today I did pretty well, I think. I really wasn't very hungry, probably because of the heat, but I feel like I made better choices than I have been.

Breakfast: (ha, I say the above then list this as my breakfast) One slice of leftover pepperoni pizza. :)

Lunch: BBQ chicken with half of a baked potato, peas and about 6 wedges of mandarin orange. I was out of sour cream so the potato only had spray butter on it.

Snack: 12 oz. can of regular Pepsi.

Dinner: A two egg omelet with ham, swiss cheese and mushrooms, shredded hashbrowns and a glass of whole milk.

Snack: An apple with a tbs. of caramel dip.

I also drank about 2 liters of water today.

So, I know there has been discussion on past posts regarding regular soda vs. diet soda but I have not really put much thought into it. However, recently (I would say for about 2 weeks now) I have been having some pretty severe pain in my hip. I was thinking that it was Sciatica but have not seen a doctor about it yet.

My husband was told during a training at work that there has been proof that diet soda's can cause Sciatica type symptoms. So he has challenged me to not drink diet for a while and see what happens. I have not had a diet soda since Wednesday evening and I have to say that my hip is starting to feel better.

So, now I have to decide if this is a fluke or if it is really true. I may switch back in a week or two and see if the pain comes back. I have decided that I am not ready to give up soda at this point so I am going to try to limit myself to no more than 24 oz. of soda a day.

Food Journal: Day 62 (Heidi)

So today was not bad. I joined My fitness pal a few months ago and then like everything else I never actually did anything with it. I decided since I'm journaling anyway, I might as well use it to keep track and to get a better look at what I'm doing nutrients-wise. It's been pretty eye opening actually.

So yesterday:
Breakfast: Toast with an egg, (Cut a hole in toast and cooked the egg in the hole) sprinkled with one teaspoon Parmesan cheese. This was really tasty, but not enough food. I should eat two of these to hold me over for the morning. I tend to snack too much, and eat more calories over all during the day if my meals aren't more substantial.
Snack: 1 cup of cherries and a string cheese
Lunch: Okay, this probably doesn't sound very good to many people, but it is something I really like. I made "Pizza" on the multi-grain wasa crackers with turkey pepperoni and a wedge of laughing cow cheese. Again, not enough food. I will also add another cheese wedge-one per cracker. But I really liked it. And it wasn't hot. Most important part, since it's been about 106*F here.

Snack: Chobani yogurt, and more cherries.
Dinner:Chicken sausage, 1/2 cup brown rice, 1 cup sauted veggies, bell peppers and onion.
Snack: (AGAIN!!!) Goldfish crackers and more cherries.

I also worked out! This is big news. I have plantar faciitis, so that's been an issue for me for over a YEAR. I finally got my left foot feeling better and my right foot went. It's been a problem. So my father in law gave us a treadmill. I made myself walk to watch my show today on TV. My foot did ok, and i stretched and iced it. So hopefully I can keep it up! I have a small goal of 4-30 min walks per week. Baby steps.

If you want to keep my accountable, join my fitness pal, the app for smartphones is wonderful, but you can do it online too! I'm nakedraindancer, and you can add friends and follow along. Make sure I log in and journal. I may also open my food diary to the public if you think you would be interested in seeing my daily food choices/exercise choices. :)

Food Journal: Day 61 (Katie)

So, here I am all out of groceries.  Again.  It's so frustrating. After 2 months of doing this I'm starting to think that one of my biggest problems is planning.  I never plan food out.  I just fly by the seat of my pants every.single.day.

Breakfast: The usual.

Snack: A package of fruit snacks. :)

Lunch: A fish sandwich at Fuddrucker's with fries and 2 cherry cokes.

Snack: Half a strawberry/lemon Eegee's frozen drink and a rice crispy treat.

Dinner: A pork chop, butter garlic noodles (the kind in a package), roasted peppers with olive oil and salt, apple sauce (just enough to dip the pork in) and peas.

Snack: Peppermint tea.

Food Journal: Day 60 (Kim)

Well, I have to admit that I am happy that Heidi and Katie were off so this doesn't look so bad! :) This post is for Wednesday and that was a crazy day for me. I had Katie's kids for a few hours and then my 22 month old went in for a late evening surgery. We ended up staying overnight at the hospital. (She is doing okay and even came home the next day)

Breakfast: Two egg omelet with swiss cheese and a glass of milk.

Snack: About four strawberries with a little whipped cream and a chocolate chip cookie.

Lunch: Macaroni and cheese with hamburger in it.

Snack: A Simply Fruit Roll-Up.

Dinner: A mushroom swiss burger and onion rings from the hospital cafeteria and a bottle of milk.

Snack: While waiting for the surgery to end one package of Gramdma vanilla cream cookies and then again while waiting for them to let me in her room a Twix bar.

I drank way too much soda today and not enough water. I also really sucked up the vegetable and fruit intake.... oh, well. It was a stressful day and unfortunately eating is what I do when I am stressed.

Does anyone have any suggestions on cutting back on stress eating??? Please share!!!

Food Journal: Day 59 (Heidi)

Wow, this week has been all messed up, my apologies for not posting until now! That camping trip and lack of internet threw us all for a loop I guess. :)

Tuesday was an ok day. I was incredibly busy though and ended up eating out twice. Ugh.

Breakfast: A bowl of grapenuts and iced tea with Stevia. (I finally remembered to buy some, and this is my slow way of weaning off artificial sweeteners.)

Snack: Cherries and cheetos.

Lunch: Panda Express noodle bowl and string bean chicken. I ate all the beans and chicken and some of the noodles. But not all of them, or even a majority of them. It's been really really hot here in Tucson, so hot food is just lacking any appeal.

Snack: hot tamales candy.

Dinner: Personal pan pizza from the Pizza Hut express inside Target. I should have thought twice about it, and not eaten it, because I paid for it all evening. It really did not settle for several hours.

Snack: Around 9pm I had the munchies so I had some fruit leather.

Eating at home needs to be more of a priority, because I make lousy choices when I'm hungry and on the go. Luckily I did get my errands run in one day and have been better off the rest of the week. :)

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Food Journal: Day 58 (Katie)

We are apparently not good at doing this if we get off track!  Hopefully this post (from what I ate on MONDAY!) will be quickly followed by Heidi and Kim's post from Tuesday and Wednesday!

Breakfast: The usual.  :)

Snack: A piece of See's chocolate and a can of Sunkist orange soda and 4 Cheeto's I stole from the kids :)

Lunch: Leftover dutch oven potatoes, BBQ chicken and green beans.

Snack: A See's Root beer sucker, another piece of See's chocolate.  Does it count as a fruit if it's the fruit flavored kind?  No?  Hm.

Dinner: A salad from Chuck E Cheese with ranch and a couple sodas, a bit of macaroni salad and cottage cheese.

Snack: Since I didn't eat much I dinner I was really hungry later so I had a handful of pretzels and some cheese before bed and drank a cup of tea.

I think that I definitely need to be better about snacking.  I need to get some healthy snack ideas and have them available so I eat them regularly.

Monday, June 18, 2012

Food Journal: Day 57 (Kim)

Well, you would think that since we were home from camping on Sunday that I would have done better but alas, I did not. Since there were major fire restrictions we did not get to do our Dutch Oven meal while we were on the mountain, so we had everyone over to our house to do it for Father's day.

Breakfast: Waffles (two squares) with butter and syrup and a glass of orange juice.

Snack: Some trail mix (Katie described it in her last post) and a couple handfuls of grapes.

Lunch: Dutch Oven BBQ chicken and Dutch Oven potatoes with onion and bacon. MMMM. My dad is an awesome cook. And some green beans.

Snack: Dutch Oven cherry cobbler and vanilla icecream.

Snack: One piece of chocolate from See's and a sucker.

Dinner: Korean BBQ ribs from a friend and more of the yummy potatoes from lunch.

I also drank soda all day long. I did manage to get in three glasses of water (probably about 30 oz.)

Food Journal: Day 56 (Heidi)

So this has been hard to sort out in my brain. :) So this post is for Saturday. I was camping. And forgot it was my day to journal. So I'm going on memory, but it's so terrible that it doesn't even matter anyway! :)

Breakfast: Pancakes (I had three, they were about 3inches across), two slices of bacon, and I'm guessing about the equivalent of two eggs, scrambled.
Snack: BBQ chips, diet cream soda, candy. (small random handfuls of candy, starbursts, a couple of twizzlers, and some swedish fish).
Lunch: Pasta salad that Katie made, it was pasta, turkey pepperoni, cauliflower, broccoli, and olives, with a little ranch dressing. I had about 2/3 cup.
Snack: More random candy, and cookies. We were sitting under a tarp in the rain. It could have been worse I guess. :)

We wound up packing up and going home early, thanks to the cold, wet, yuck and fire restrictions. I finally fed my kids dinner, and grabbed a cheeseburger and small fries from McDonalds. Which ended up not tasting good, so I only ate the burger and about 5 fries.

Then I got home, vegged out after showering, and ate...more candy. I'm so ashamed....But oh well. It was vacation!

Food Journal: Day 55 (Katie)

Since we went camping this weekend we didn't have access to a computer to do our blog.  But don't worry!  We are back (at bit early...we are big weenies and decided it was too cold and rainy to stay Saturday night since we couldn't have a fire!).  So this post is for Friday!

Breakfast: Carnation Instant breakfast.  I'm lucky I even got that since I'm such a procrastinator and had to get all my camping stuff ready by 8 in the morning! :)

Snack: A couple of graham crackers and two glasses of water.

Lunch: A Santa Fe chicken pita, french fries and a large Dr. Pepper at Jack in the Box on our way up the mountain!

Snack:  This is where it gets a bit fuzzy.  When we are camping there are always so many snacks laying around that I munch on them and get distracted :)  I guess it's fortunate that we only go once a year! I definitely ate several Twizzler's and I had a diet cream soda.

Dinner: A cheeseburger with mayo and ketchup and I got distracted by the kids and didn't have any chips.  A Cherry Seven-UP.

Snack: I munched on some trail mix with peanuts, M&M's, raisins, etc.  I also had another Twizzler and a glass of hot cocoa.  I'm not sure if I had other things, to be completely honest, we were playing games and such but I was also really busy trying to get kids in bed and such so I was really distracted.  I guess I should have been writing it down but we only had one small pad of paper. :)

Hope you all had a great weekend too!

What's your favorite camping recipe?  Is it healthy or do you indulge while camping?

Food Journal: Day 54 (Kim)

Today was strange. I wanted fruit all day long. So, I ate fruit. I also did pretty good with the veggies. However, my water intake stunk yet again! I feel like a broken record.

Breakfast: Banana and an apple.

Snack: I shared a gogurt with my little one.

Lunch: Pepperoni Hot Pocket and a green salad with croutons and lite Cesar dressing.

Dinner: Crockpot chicken with two tortillas.

Snack: Watermelon.

I am not sure how I wasn't starving all day. Very strange eating day for me. I also had two 12 oz. cans of diet soda, and probably 30 oz. of water.

Well, folks, the three of us, our kiddo's and Grammy and Pop are off for a weekend camping trip! Check back Sunday afternoon (Monday morning at the latest) to see how much candy and junk we ate while roughing it!

Food Journal Day 53 (Heidi)

So yesterday did not go well. In terms of the day over all or my eating. And this late post for yesterday this late today is just part of it. :) It sort of blurred together into a great deal of crazy.

Breakfast was cereal and toast. I was still ravenous after eating that.
Snack: About 2 hours later, pretzels and diet dr. pepper.
Lunch: left over lasagna! (Thanks Chelle!) and water.
Snack: Skinny caramel machiatto (Grande)
Snack: (I was like a bottomless pit, starving, pms'ing and who know what!) pudding cup, a banana, and more pretzels.
Dinner: A gross bbq chicken sandwich I made. (Just didn't like the sauce), on a white bun, and a huge serving of lightly saute'd zucchini. Thank goodness for the zucchini!
It was girls night, so we hit Dairy Queen too, I was mostly good and got a mini-Blizzard.

Then we went shopping for camping supplies and then I just passed out when I finally got to bed. (And my sisters got home even later! Yikes.)

It's good too, because yesterday I felt like I could eat a house.

Food Journal: Day 52 (Katie)

Today was not my best showing.  I don't really have any excuse other than I seem to have no will power.  I used to do Weight Watchers, which I actually really liked.  But I canceled my membership when my daughter was so sick because I wasn't even using it.  As my weight eeks upwards every month I'm starting to think that I might need to get on that bandwagon.  It certainly gets you motivated and it sticks you with a plan.  I have to have a little accountability or I (obviously) eat whatever I want.

Breakfast:  Carnation Instant breakfast and a  handful of blue berries.

Snack: A large Cherry Limeade from Sonic and a small tater tot.  (back to that will power thing- They had a big ol' picture of them right there on the sign for everyone to see!)

Lunch: A cheddar brat in a whole wheat bun (I have to get points where I can!) and a handful of Veggie Straws.  I also had a few bites of leftover salad from Olive Garden but the lettuce was kind of slimy so I threw it away instead.

Snack: A (large) handful of chocolate covered almonds and a Orange/Carrot smoothie from Jamba Juice.

Dinner: Something called "Daddy's Stuff" that my dad invented. It's basically rice, hamburger, onions and soy sauce, green beans and a glass of water.

Dessert: A piece of cake.  (My dad made this too :) )

I'm going to have a cup of tea and a banana now and go to bed.  I'm kind of tired and cranky.  And since I haven't done it in a while my weight is 155.0 :(

Food Journal: Day 51 (Kim)

Yay! We are officially over the hump! More than half way there! I am super excited that we have made it this far and I am pretty sure that one of our husbands is out some money by now since there were probably bets going around about how long we would stay with this. :)

Today was a pretty even keel day. We were a little busy but made sure that we had time to just relax and enjoy Jason's day off together.

I got up early to relieve the night nurse for our little one, so I decided to make breakfast. We had biscuits and sausage gravy with scrambled eggs. I ate two biscuits and two eggs and probably 1/2 cup of gravy (maybe closer to 3/4). I also had a glass of skim milk. ( I may have to try the whole milk theory *see comments on day 49, since I love whole milk so much.)

Snack: A handful of dry roasted peanuts and about a dozen cherries.

Lunch: Grilled pork chops, augratin potatoes and corn.

Snack: Chocolate pudding.

Dinner: One BLT with extra T, and a handful of Sunflower Market Cheese Puffs. (Pretty good, they are made with real cheese.)

Snack: Reese's Peanut Butter Cup ice cream treat.

I was super hot today, I could not seem to cool down, I drank a bunch of water all day and two cans of diet Cherry Pepsi.

I probably should have left the ice cream for later since I ate it at 10:30 at night, but I was still super hot and it was screaming my name from the freezer. :)

Food Journal:Day 50 (Heidi)

Half way there!!! Wow. I can't believe we started this 50 days ago. :) It's been fun, and I hope you are still enjoying reading. As has been mentioned, the next set of 100 posts will be drastically different from these, I think it will be surprising and possibly far more interesting to read. Thanks for hanging in there with us!

Breakfast: grapenuts and a package of splenda. This will be changing soon, as I'm starting a new endeavor of giving up artificial sweeteners, it's mostly to test a theory I heard about fake sugars and joint pain. So soon I will be using Stevia exclusively.

Lunch: It got crazy today and I didn't get lunch until 2:30 at a birthday party for some of my kids friends. I had two slices of pizza. And I had a venti Skinny caramel machiatto to kick my raging headache. (It worked too, which is good because the party was at a bowling alley with 20 kids!)

Dinner: Crockpot chicken cooked in salsa, wrapped as a burrito in a flour tortilla, with some lettuce, a tbs of sour cream and some cheese. It was fantastic. Katie made it because I'm babysitting for them so they could have a date night, plus I had ulterior motives. My washing machine is on the fritz and I am buried in laundry. I've done 7 loads so far. ;) Thank goodness for family!

Snack: I had some peanut butter pretzels she has in her cupboard. I had 2 servings, because I didn't look at the serving size before I ate them. You only get 8. I'm sure had twice that amount.

But I figure it's ok since I didn't have any other snacks today. I hope to finish that laundry and be on my way home shortly so I can go to bed. So that's it for the day.

Food Journal: Day 49 (Katie)

My goodness!  We are nearly half way there already!  I can't believe it!

Today was atypical for me actually.  Saturdays we generally spend working or running all around like crazy people trying to get things that have been put off done.  But today we decided we just needed to chill and spend the day at home (admittedly getting a few things checked off the "at home" to do list) and let the kids hang with their things for a while.  My day started rather abruptly (and a tad earlier than I prefer) at 6 am with my 1 year old screaming her head off from her crib.  I was in her room in less than a second (no really, this is probably not an exaggeration, which those of you with children will understand) just to find her with *both* her legs stuck in the crib bars.  A predicament I was initially under the impression only a younger baby could get themselves into.  And with that my day was off and running!

Breakfast: 2 Cinnamon waffles (the freezer kind) with syrup.

Snack: A glass of coke and some (I didn't count, but maybe 8ish?) whole wheat Ritz crackers.

Lunch: 1/2 a Totino's Supreme party pizza.  Another glass of coke.

Snack: An ice cream sandwich from Skinny Cow.

Dinner: Hubby wanted Italian and since he knows my cooking abilities so well he volunteered to run to Olive Garden for take out. :)  I had a bowl of Zuppa Toscana, a bread stick, a salad with their house dressing, and 4 bites of lasagna and four bites of fettuccine Alfredo.  And yes, I did count because I was so full by this point that I was just tasting my actual dinner! ha!

Dessert: I made these yummy baked apples in the crock pot.  Each apple was cored and then stuffed with oatmeal, brown sugar, cinnamon and butter.  I cooked it a little too long but it was pretty tasty!

I then had another glass of Coke.  I'm not sure why I was craving it so much today.   But I do fill the glass almost entirely with ice before I drink it so I probably had about 24 ounces today.

Food Journal: Day 48 (Kim)

Well I had a crazy busy day today as usual and I was out of the house from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. So, I ate fast food for lunch but didn't do too bad for the rest of the day.

Breakfast: Slimfast shake. (No, I am not doing a diet, it just happened to be in my fridge and I was in a hurry), I also had a granola square and a few grapes.

Lunch: 6 and a half hours later, I got to eat lunch. Not the best choice but I was starving. I had a quarter pounder with cheese, a large fry and a large Dr. Pepper from McDonald's. :(

Snack: A handful of grapes and a couple cherries.

Dinner: Spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread and one ear of corn on the cob with spray butter.

Snack: Three Oreo cookies.

I drank three 24 ounce glasses of water and a diet Code Red Mt. Dew today as well.

I try to plan ahead, and fully intended to pack a lunch since I knew I would be out all day but time got away from me and needless to say a lunch was not packed.

Food Journal: Day 47 (Heidi)

Today was one of those off the wall sorts of days. It involved a bathroom remodel, painting, an entire night of insomnia and nightmares and an upset stomach prior to starting the day, and also running kids to mariachi music camp across town.

Breakfast: Cheerios.
Snack: Diet Dr. Pepper and a chewy granola bar.
Lunch: two small red potatoes and about 2oz of pork tenderloin. I wasn't feeling very hungry and had to get out the door.
Snack: A skinny caramel machiato at Starbucks (Grande) and then when we got home I had a plum, a handful of pretzels and some popcorn.
Dinner: A hot dog in a bun. A handful of Fritos chips and raisins. I don't know why, but raisins sounded good. I had another plum too. It's the only fruit in the house, and even though they aren't very ripe they were cold and juicy and after painting all day it tasted very refreshing anyway.

I also had lots of water and iced tea to drink. I'm wiped out, so I'm going to call it a night now at 9pm and head to bed. So nothing more for me. :)

Food Journal: Day 46 (Katie)

Hey all! I'm late posting again. :)  I don't like being up late so since last night was girls night I was late getting in and then I didn't want to write.  I figure it's better to get the post late but have it make sense than to get it on time and have to spend an hour deciphering what I was trying to say!

Breakfast: Nothing exciting here.  Just my usual Carnation Instant breakfast.  Until we started this blog I don't think I realized that I really do drink it almost every day!

Snack: A couple handfuls of pita chips as I walked past the open bag at work.

Lunch: A PB&J sandwich and some Veggie Straws (*not as good for you as they sound ;) ).  Diet Mt. Dew and a few cherries.

Snack: 3 chocolate chip WhoNu cookies.  You know the ones with the annoying commercials?  Well it turns out they actually are pretty tasty.  As to how nutritious they are, well, they aren't health food but in a health battle between them and a regular cookie they are gonna win! :)

Dinner: A Chicken bacon ranch wrap at Arby's, 1/2 a medium curly fry and almost 2 glasses of regular Mt. Dew.

Snack: A soft serve ice cream cone.  The guy made it enormous!  But it was skinny.  At least that's what I'm telling myself to make it sound better!

So overall it wasn't a great day! I suck at making good choices.  I have no will power.  Apparently I need to look in the mirror more often.  And I need to join a gym.  And I need to make a menu.  Or I'm going to be overweight for as far as I can see into the future.

Food Journal: Day 45 (Kim)

Well, like Katie I have a million excuses for why I didn't post this yesterday, but I think you may understand when you read about my day.

My morning started with a puking baby (note she is almost 1 so her puke is not just formula). Then my 22 month old was running a fever, mind you, she was supposed to have surgery so needless to say that did not happen, and she was not feeling well, so I had to make an unplanned visit to the doctor, who decided that she needed a chest x-ray stat. So, we headed that way. Also, take into consideration that I have all three of Katie's kids, plus a not feeling so great 10 and 1/2 month old. Luckily my mother-in-law was able to stay and watch them so I wasn't dragging them around with me.

It just continued that way all day. When I went to take Katie's kids to her, I discovered that Della's (Katie's youngest) car seat was not installed. I could not get it in so Katie and Terry had to come pick the kiddo's up. It was just pure chaos all day long. And, I succumbed to my stress eating habits. a.k.a.- non-stop grazing.

Breakfast- A bowl of Grapenuts cereal. (this was before anyone else was awake. My intentions for the day were good.)

Snack- Beef jerky and popcorn.

Lunch- Grilled chicken sandwich and mashed potatoes with gravy from Culvers and a diet Pepsi.

Snack/Dinner- This is where it really went downhill. I think that I was unwinding and just kept eating...
I had an ice cream cone after Katie's kids left. Then I had more beef jerky, then I ate a cheeseburger that my in-laws had bought me for lunch, then I had some popcorn, two chocolate chip cookies, a glass of milk, two Code Red Mt. Dew's (diet) and a hard boiled egg.

On a good note, I drank tons of water. I could not get enough water today. I easily drank six 24 oz glasses of water.

Food Journal-- Day 44 (Heidi)

Today was just plain boring and mundane. Made eating right difficult. But I did ok.

Breakfast: a piece of toast and a banana and a cup of milk.
Snack: Popcorn
Lunch: I went to Chipotle with my friend and her daughter. I got a bowl instead of a burrito, it was rice, chicken, black beans, a little salsa, a little cheese, and sourcream. Even still we looked it up and it was abut 700 calories! Yikes. I ate most of it too. Very hungry today.
Snack: Ice cream bar that Katie's husband bought from the ice cream truck yesterday and left in my freezer. It was in there yelling my name. I blame Terry.
Dinner: white rice, homemade gravy with ground beef (we call it hamburger gravy), and green beans. Normally we don't even have white rice, but it was in there as a leftover so I heated it up so it didn't go to waste. :) (I bought white rice for cell phone incidents...ahem.)

Food Journal: Day 43 (Katie)

Yesterday was Kim's birthday! Happy birthday Kim! We got together as a family and then by the time I got home and kids and animals settled it was late and I was tired so that is my excellent excuse for why this is getting posted late!

And yesterday was not my greatest day...

Breakfast: I had Grape-nuts with a little sugar and a glass of water.

Snack: Piece of string cheese.

Lunch: A little bit of rotisserie chicken.  And that's it because I got distracted by my kids then I put my toddlers down for nap and then I forgot until it was too late to do anything about it and we had to leave.

Snack: 20 oz. Dr Pepper (normally I'm happy drinking diet but I really wanted the sugar/calories since I basically skipped lunch!)

Dinner: Cheeseburger with mayo and ketchup, some pita chips with an avocado dip and a diet Mt. Dew.

Desert: A s'more and an extra marshmallow just roasted.

And I think that's about it.  I suppose it wasn't horrible but it could have been better.  I'll make up for it by having a salad for lunch today. ;)

Saturday, June 2, 2012

Food Journal: Day 42 (Kim)

I feel like my day went pretty well. I tried to make better choices for my meals and snacks today and did okay. There are somethings that I could have done better with but I was really craving sweets so considering the fact that I really wanted cookies and ice cream and candy bars...

Breakfast: Two egg omelet with bacon pieces and cheese.

Snack: Handful of pretzel Goldfish.

Lunch: Peanut butter and jelly sandwich, four bean salad and about 8 baby carrots with 1 tbs of ranch.

Snack: Chocolate pudding cup with whipped topping.

Dinner: Baked chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy and stir-fried zucchini with spray butter and a little parmesan cheese.

Snack: A large tortilla with a little butter, sugar and cinnamon crisped under the broiler and I fully intend to make my husband share the bag of popcorn he just popped. :)

I also had two diet soda's and three 24 oz. glasses of water.

Tomorrow I don't think I will be so good. It is my birthday after all and Heidi is promising s'mores. ;)

Friday, June 1, 2012

Food Journal: Day 41 (Heidi)

Today was a hot one. I'm not sure on the "official" temp, but I saw 105*F today according to the weather channel on my iphone. I'm going with that. And when it's that hot, it's pretty easy to do nothing but drink water.

Breakfast: Lucky charms and a banana. Yeah, I cannot resist those little marshmallows. Luckily whenever sugared cereal enters my home, my kids eat it in such a hurry that it would seem that they are starving. So that should be gone by tomorrow or so. Then I can return to adulthood and eat something more "grown up".

Lunch: A peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some pretzel sticks and some raspberries.

Snack: 1/2 cup of tapioca pudding, and about 10 more pretzel sticks.

Dinner: Grilled burgers, added a little cheese and then had carrots and grapes.

Snack: a chewy granola bar.

I took the kids swimming today, that was fun and gave me a bit of exercise. Which is good, because my foot has been really hurting lately and so anything that is not weight bearing but movement is fantastic! :) And it just felt really good. We went at 10am and it was already 100*F, can you believe that!? Crazy hot desert.

Thursday, May 31, 2012

Food Journal: Day 40 (Katie)

Today was a normal sort of day for me.  We were out the door by 7:40 though, which put a crimp in my plan to eat Grape-nuts instead of Carnation Instant breakfast, but that's okay.  Then work without the kiddos since Kim has been taking them (which is so nice for all of us! Except maybe Kim...)

Breakfast: Carnation Instant Breakfast and a banana.

Snack: Red Bull

Lunch: Beef tamale and some BBQ Lays, Diet Mt. Dew

Snack: 1 Nature Valley Granola Thin with Dark Chocolate and a glass of water.

Dinner: Breakfast burrito with a medium flour tortilla, potato with seasoned salt, scrambled eggs, bacon, shredded cheese and salsa.  Glass of milk.

Snack: Cherries and a glass of water.  But I'm pretty hungry so I'm also going to have a slice of wheat bread with Country Crock Spread on it to help fill me up.

For me it seems to be meal planning that is getting me.  We did go grocery shopping Tuesday but it was a total spur of the moment thing and I didn't have a menu planned out.  I end up eating junk for lunches and snacks because I'm not prepared.  And since I'm not at home I have to eat from the limited selection of whatever I've managed to bring in to work or I eat out.  How do you menu plan?  Do you do it weekly?  Are you very strict?  How do you get around the "We planned on having this for dinner, but it really doesn't sound good today" question?

Food Journal: Day 39 (Kim)

It was a crazy busy day at my house today. I not only had two out of three of Katie's kids for most of the day, I had to be on a conference call for about an hour, the new t.v. was delivered and set up, my mother-in-law came by to help out, Heidi and Dad came over for lunch, my husband didn't get off until 7:00 p.m. (12 hour shift) and it was girls night.

I actually feel like I got a lot accomplished despite all the craziness and I did okay with my eating. I even drank close to 40 oz. of water!

Breakfast: A bowl of Grapenuts cereal.

Snack: Three graham cracker squares.

Lunch: Two burnt hotdogs, a few Doritos, small servings of four bean salad and coleslaw and a pickled egg.

Snack: About a 1/4 of a cup of dry roasted peanuts and a can of Diet Dr. Pepper.

Dinner: A bowl of potato soup with some crackers and then I snagged a piece of the pizza my husband had delivered for his dinner. I missed getting to eat dinner out with my sisters because Jason had to work late but judging by the drink cup Heidi had it was probably a good thing. It looked like In and Out. :)

Snack: I did of course get to have my frozen yogurt from U-Swirl before the night was done. I had their cheesecake yogurt with graham cracker crumbs, some crushed up Heath bar, Heath topping (the kind that hardens) and about five gummy bears.

Food Journal-Day 38 (Heidi)

Today I had a house full of children. Literally. I had six 8 year olds (my own, my nephew, my friends son, and another friends triplets) and my 10 year old.

Lucky for me everyone came with a prepared lunch so that went smoothly! But my day was jam packed with keeping up with them all. : )

Breakfast: Shredded wheat mini's.
Snack: Diet Dr. Pepper. I had two. I thought about having a granola bar for a snack. And to be totally honest I cannot remember if I actually got to eat it or not. I was that distracted. So maybe I had a Quaker chewy granola bar?
Lunch: Leftover italian beef on a sub roll and a handful of kettle chips.
Snack: I made a big bowl of popcorn and shared with kids. I had probably 3 cups, and it had butter on it. (Homemade on the stove, not microwave)

Dinner: A hot dog in a bun. And some baby carrots. Tonight I just had three kids, but my husband was gone, so we had a pretty lazy "Whatever" night. (That's what I call it so it seems cool instead of sounding like a slacker mommy. ;) )

Then I had a sucker for a snack.

I may still have something else? I'm considering two graham crackers, and a small glass of milk. I'll add it now, just in case I decide to snack on something later, because I know I'm not going to be back on line tonight. :)

Hope everyone had a fantastic holiday weekend.

Food Journal: Day 37 (Katie)

Happy Memorial Day!  Hope you all got to spend some time with family and friends and I hope you thanked a veteran or two!

Breakfast:  You will not believe it but I DID NOT have Carnation Instant breakfast today!  I had a bowl of oatmeal made with milk and with 1 tablespoon of brown sugar.  I also had about 12 ounces of apple juice.

Snack: A 32 oz Dr. Pepper (but it did have lots of ice, so not really a full 32 oz of soda :) )

Lunch: A corn dog and some BBQ Lays.  I also stole 3 Cheetos's from my daughter.  Ahem.

Snack: Unsweetened iced tea and a package of cheesy bunnies (like Goldfish but the organic kind you get from Costco).

Snack: Several tortilla chips dipped in salsa or guacamole and a Jones Soda of some kind.

Dinner: 1 chicken drumstick, grilled, one serving spoon full of corn, half a slice of bread with butter, a large serving spoonful of potato salad, 1 pickled egg and several slices of pickled beets, some Caesar salad with a few croutons.  Half a Jones Soda.

Desert: a piece of cake that was average sized, probably 4 inches square (ish?).

Not a terrible day for being at a large gathering.  We also went swimming for a while so I got a bit of exercise in and it also kept me from snacking the entire afternoon!

I still haven't been to the grocery store.  And I still haven't made a menu.  I really am a big slacker.

Food Journal: Day 36 (Kim)

Had a nice relaxing day at home today. My hubby let me sleep in for a little while and then he even cooked me breakfast. We then watched a movie which I somehow managed to not snack through it and we had a BBQ with his parents and played games. It wasn't a bad food day all in all so I am feeling pretty good about it.

Breakfast: One egg, a piece of ham and two slices of toast.

Lunch: Steak, coleslaw, two ears of corn on the cob, baked beans and a biscuit.

Snack: Watermelon and some Snackwell's caramel corn (one of those 130 calorie packs)

Dinner: two small sandwiches with meat and cheese. I like to use pizza type meats and a little cheese and toast them in my sandwich toaster. So I had one with pepperoni (turkey) and salami and one with canadian bacon and pineapple.

I drank three or four glasses of water during lunch and while we were playing games before I had soda. But that means that I didn't have anything to drink until after noon. OI! I really suck at this hydration thing. It is amazing to me that I can survive living in this heat...

Saturday, May 26, 2012

Food Journal: Day 35 (Heidi)

Wow! 35 days. I'm impressed with that number!
Today wasn't too bad calorie wise, but choice wise, a little terrible. ;)
Breakfast: Shredded wheat.
Lunch: 6 pizza rolls (Totinos or whoever, the little frozen bites), some baked chips and strawberries and pear slices.
Snack: Pina Colada Eegee's (a frozen slushy drink, I think Katie mentioned this before, it's local to Tucson), and I shared some ranch fries with Shawn. I ate 15. (I counted). And it is what it is. Fries with ranch on them.
Dinner: We went to a party for a friends birthday, and so I had chips and guacamole, a diet orange soda, and a small chicken burrito with some cheese, and a small amount of guac and sour cream. I also started a small coffee, but I only drank about two or three sips and then set it down by my chair on the patio. Within minutes I realized the little dog who lived there really likes coffee.  So I stopped drinking it.
Dessert: I split a piece of ice cream cake with Shawn. It was sugar free/frosting free, and I ate about 1/3 of a slice.
Now I'm whooped and heading to bed.

Food Journal: Day 34 (Katie)

Today was about as normal as it gets for me.  So this should be simple.

Breakfast: Carnation instant breakfast (I'm starting to wonder if I should just skip writing out "Carnation Instant breakfast" and instead just write "")

Snack: A handful of Goldfish crackers. Diet Dr. Pepper

Lunch: Leftover sweet and sour pork and fried rice from yesterday.

Snack: A  Hershey's milk chocolate bar and a handful of microwave popcorn.

Dinner: Arby's Roast Beef sandwich, 1/2 a medium fries and two glasses of iced tea. (And I'm a tea purist, I never sweeten it.)

Snack: I haven't had it yet but I'm hungry.  I'm thinking a string cheese and a few pretzels.  And maybe a cup of hot cocoa.  If I change my mind I'll be sure to update! :)

If you've noticed we've been eating out a lot lately.  This is because we haven't been to the grocery store in weeks.  At least not for an actual shopping trip.  It definitely needs to happen because otherwise we just eat out all the time.  And I always flirt with the idea of having a menu but I never actually do it.  Maybe I'll make it my goal for this week and try to hit the store on Sunday.

Food Journal: Day 33 (Kim)

Ok, so I am a total slacker. This is almost 24 hours late... I completely forgot it was my day yesterday. So here goes:

Not a whole lot to say about the day. It was a little crazy since I had all three of Katie's kiddo's for most of the day. But we pulled it off.

Breakfast: Bowl of Special K Pecan cereal.

Lunch: Macaroni and cheese with peas and two fish fillets. (not the good for you ones either, these were from my freezer but they were breaded and greasy)

Snack: Corn chips with salsa

Dinner: Chinese take-out. I know, I know, we just did that a  few days ago but there were really good intentions. I had Korean BBQ defrosting in the microwave, corn on the cob boiling on the stove and potatoes getting ready to bake when all craziness broke loose. Jason went to pull the meat out of the microwave and somehow managed to pull the turn-table with it dropping both on the floor shattering the glass from the tray, knocking the fruit plate off the top of the microwave also shattering all over the floor... we had both had a really long day and this was at 8:00. So, Jason ran to the chinese restaurant that we love and so that was that. I did eat the corn but I had cashew chicken, fried rice and an egg roll.

I did not have a snack after dinner but it was close to 10 by the time we finished eating so I went to bed.

Food Journal- Day 32 (Heidi)

So one of the reasons for this blog, besides keeping track for ourselves, was not about a diet. It was about what we eat. And why. And to show how it can be difficult for a busy mom to eat well.

Today was a good example of this.

For breakfast I had shredded wheat and milk. I almost never have a hard time with breakfast, it's usually at home, and I love grainy cereals. I don't usually need sugar, and I wake up hungry. I never skip it, and I rarely need anything fancy.

"Lunch/Snack" happened at my daughters school today. They hosted a "Readers Dinner theater" and it was a pot luck. We brought dessert.

So I had the worlds smallest slice of pizza. It was about half (but I got the small side) of a small slice. I had a small spoonful (think plastic spoon) of cherry cobbler, a small 1"x1" brownie bite and about 10 pieces of pasta and a slice of olive from the bowl of pasta salad. :) I also had a bite of a  bite sized cinnamon roll. There were lots of fruit salads, but they all had melon mixed in, which I LOVE but I suffer from oral allergies and melon especially causes small blisters and itching in my mouth. So I want to eat it, but cannot.

Then I had lunch later, a bowl of salad and a diet Dr. Pepper.

Snack again was a little more cobbler. I had to bring it home and it was calling my name. So I had a total of about 1/2 cup from both servings.

Dinner was a turkey sandwich which is "half a sandwich" at Beyond Bread, but really that means "Still really giant" and I ate the chips.

We had a lovely dessert of Creme' Brulee at the resort we went to last night for girls night. But it was very resort like (aka very small) ;)

And because we were at a resort an hour north of my house, I got home really late. Which is why this post is delayed.

Do you face the same challenges? Kids activities/parties, office goodies, etc? How do you handle it? Small servings like me? Skip it altogether? How do you handle it if you skip eating so as not to seem rude in a pot luck situation?

Food Journal: Day 31 (Katie)

Today was a bit chaotic, but often that is the case! I clearly need to learn how to deal with having a busy schedule and eating appropriately!

Breakfast:  Carnation Instant Breakfast

Snack: 20 oz regular Dr. Pepper

Lunch: Sour Dough Jack from Jack in the Box, about 3/4 of a medium fry and a 32 oz diet Dr. Pepper.

Snack: Nope.

Dinner: This is where it gets interesting.  I went to my sisters house to pick up my kids and she was making calzones for our husbands' weekly game night.  She offered to make me one.  It had canadian bacon, mozzarella cheese, pineapple, green peppers, tomatoes and tomato sauce.  When she tried to cook it for me she realized her over was turned off.  So apparently after she figured that out she didn't cook it quite long enough and it was still doughy.  I took it home though because I needed to get my kids in bed (and the guys were wanting to play a game without 3 children running around screaming).  When I got home I heated up my oven to finish cooking it.  I left it sitting on the counter on a pan while the oven got hot.  I then went about my way getting all the things ready for the kids to go to bed and getting the laundry switched out.  I let the two little ones play outside during this time.  Just as I was getting ready to call them in they both appeared in their bedrooms so I got everyone ready for bed and tucked in.  When I returned to the kitchen to finish baking my dinner I found a plastic cup from outside that had apparently been full of muddy water dumped on its side in the pan with my calzone. Seriously.  I quickly dumped it off the pan and tried to salvage what I could and baked it for 10 more minutes.  When it came out half of it was burned and the other half was still soggy from muddy water.  So I gave up.  I heated up a bowl of leftover bean and ham soup from yesterday and tried to eat that.  But for some reason it tasted really funny so I stopped eating it.  By this point I was completely irritated so I had 2 corn muffins with a bit of butter and drizzled in honey and two glasses of milk.  And now, even though it's still pretty early, I'm going to go to bed!

And for the record my weight today is 152.8.  I'm not sure how much up that is from last time and I'm too lazy to go look right now! :)

Food Journal: Day 30 (Kim)

I had a very full schedule today and luckily did not have time to stress eat. Because it was a very stressful day! I very rarely say this but it was a Monday. Yuck. I hated Monday (today). :)

Breakfast: Grapenuts cereal with fresh raspberries and milk and a banana.

Snack: Are you kidding me? There was no time for a snack, between four meetings today, six plus phone calls with doctors, specialists and surgery schedulers (oi! What a mess), plus the normal fun stuff like changing diapers and convincing a very sweet but sassy 10 month old that she does indeed need a nap. Yep not a lot of time set aside for eating.

Lunch: Was very late squeezed between meetings number 3 and 4. I had a pb and j sandwich and a few chips.

Snack: Ha, I snagged a handful of dry roasted peanuts before I collapsed on the couch for about 2 minutes before the phone started ringing again and the baby started fussing (mind you this was about 5:30 and way to late to even consider letting her take a nap (because of course now she wants one)).

Dinner: Tacos, I had two hard shell and one soft shell. I put beans, meat, cheese, tomatoes and sour cream on them.

Snack: My hubby brought me a package of Oreo Cakesters and I ate them in bed while reading my book and pretending that this day never happened.

I drank way too much soda and very little water. This will obviously be an ongoing struggle for me.

Food Journal-Day 29 (Heidi)

Today was not great. I was traveling and then home and then right back out the door. My husband and I just celebrated 16 pretty wonderful years together by taking a trip out of town. This morning we hit the road and grabbed Mcdonald's.

Breakfast-Sausage McMuffin with Egg, hashbrown, and a diet Coke. (Yeah, yeah)

Snack--we shared toffee peanuts. More diet soda.

Lunch--hot, tired of driving, and thirsty. So nothing but about 3 glasses of water and ice.

Snack--nothing. Still too hot to eat, and so I just left the house to get the kids from my mom. She had stolen them from Kim for the afternoon. Kim had them all weekend for us! (How sweet is that?) I did take another glass of icewater for the road.

Dinner--Wendy's. I'm dead serious. McDonalds and Wendy's. I'm so proud. I manage to eat two meals all day and that's what I came up with? Wow.

But I did ok. I had a Jr. Cheeseburger, and split a medium fries with Kira. (She is a fry fiend, so I am pretty positive I had less than half.) and then I had more diet Coke. Good grief. Plus another glass of water.

So nary a sign of fruits or veggies today. Or anything at all remotely healthy in the whole lot of it.

Tomorrow will be better. I'm not leaving the house if I can help it, other than the trips to and from the school to leave or retrieve my children. ;) And thank goodness. I plan on doing much better!

Food Journal: Day 28 (Katie)

Today we had a yard sale. That doesn't sound bad in and of itself but if you know us you know that means we had donuts. And I'm a sucker for donuts. They are one of those things that if I don't even start eating them I'm fine, but once I have one it's all over for me. So I ate them like I wanted and didn't worry about it. Obviously.

Breakfast: Three donuts. Yep. Three. And you can blame Kim because she was egging me on. I also had a banana and a cup of hot cocoa.

Snack: A handful of tortilla chips and two glasses of diet cherry Pepsi.

Lunch: A peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a glass of water.

Snack: I shared a 32 ounce regular cherry Pepsi with my husband at the zoo.

Dinner: A pork chop, Israeli couscous, peas and roasted sweet peppers. A glass of water.

Snack: Honestly, I haven't decided yet!  But I'm going to post this anyway because I'm tired of the computer and I want to go read my book.  So I'll be sure to update this in the morning if I decide to have something! :)

Food Journal: Day 27 (Kim)

I had a pretty busy day today and did not make the best choices for eating. But some days are like that. I think that is why dieting can be so discouraging. If you slip up then you feel guilty for it and then you worry too much. At least that is how I am. I was very happy when we decided to not make this about dieting but about journaling our food intake so that we can see what our habits are and start making better choices. It allows for bad days without the guilt.

Breakfast: Two slices of leftover pepperoni pizza from Hungry Howies.

Snack: A handful of dry roasted peanuts.

Lunch: Turkey sandwich on white bread and some chips with salsa.

Snack: Chocolate milkshake from Carls Junior.

Dinner: Chinese take-out from Hot Wok. I had some fried rice, chicken and mongolian beef.

I drank a ton of water today and a 32 oz. glass of Diet Dr. Pepper, I also drank a couple Emergen-C packets because I feel like I am getting sick.

I also need to start adding some exercise into my day. Anyone have any suggestions for beginning exercises I can do at home with minimal equipment?

Food Journal Day 26 (Heidi)

Today was easy. I pretty much felt queasy all day and sort of off. So eating well sort of happened naturally.

Breakfast was a bowl of shredded wheat mini's.
Snack --an english muffin with a tablespoon of my friend Chris's first place prize winning jam.  It was hard to just eat one muffin. Her jam is delicious!

Lunch--not feeling so hot by then. Met Katie and my mom for lunch at Jason's Deli and ordered a half of a turkey sandwich. I ate it, and drank some of my diet soda, but didn't touch the chips or eat anything else.

Around 3 I started feeling hungry? Or something. So I had a quaker chewy granola bar. And then felt worse.

Dinner was a quick thrown together meal of brown rice, keilbasa, and some corn. No one was hungry, everyone is hot and so the meal was pretty much untouched. We put away a ton of leftovers tonight.

I had a few bites of each and then decided to listen to my stomach.

I feel better now, and the night is young, but I have no intentions of eating.

I'm pretty sure I just feel off because of the heat, and I suffer from occasional insomnia, and have only had about 4 hours of sleep in two nights. I hopefully will sleep well tonight and I should be as good as new! Another good friend of mine, Miwa suggested for the insomnia I get in a good walk during the day to help sleep better at night. Wise words, and I plan on seeing about getting some workouts back into my schedule.

Food Journal- Day 25 (Katie)

Yes.  I was the first to not get my post up "on time" :)  In my defense I've been so busy and tired because my poor husband is really sick and isn't able to sleep or help out at work.  And since we own our own business and we both work there it makes it extra hard for us when one of us is sick!  So that being said here is my journal from yesterday.

Breakfast: Red Bull and a banana. HA! That is what happens when you run out of Carnation Instant breakfast on the same morning after getting only 3 hours of broken sleep! :)

Snack: A handful of pretzels and a stick of string cheese.

Lunch: Peanut butter and Jelly on wheat bread and a handful of Salsa Verde Dorito's.  Water to drink.

Snack: Diet Dr Pepper and a few more pretzels.

Dinner: A cheesburger and fries at Wendy's and a Dr Pepper....and then a Coke.  (not my best showing, but it was girls night and like I said, I was tired!)

Snack: A mix of watermelon and orange sherbet frozen yogurt topped with blueberries, strawberries and cherries.  So at least I redeemed myself at the end!

I've also been pretty good about drinking lots of water.  I don't generally have too much trouble remembering to do this when it's 100 degrees F outside so I'm not surprised.  I struggle much more when the temperatures are cooler!

Food Journal- Day 24 (Kim)

Good morning! I forgot to post last night, sorry about that. I had a pretty good day yesterday. I was really busy with housework so like Heidi, if I am busy I eat less. However, you will be able to tell when the busy slowed down because then I started to snack, oh, well.

Breakfast: Instant oatmeal and a slice of toast with apple jelly and a small glass of milk.

Snack: A tomato (I eat them like an apple with a little salt) and a Laughing Cow cheese wheel.

Lunch: Ham sandwich with sliced tomato and iceberg lettuce and a little olive oil mayo, corn chips and salsa.

Dinner: Spaghetti with meat sauce and parmesan, a slice of garlic bread and cream style corn.

Snack: Sunflower seeds and about 20 oz. of Diet Pepsi.

Snack: A handful of vanilla wafers.

Snack: String Cheese.

Ha, yes I had three snacks after dinner.... oh, well it could have been worse, I do have cookie dough in my fridge and ice cream in my freezer.

I also drank 2 1/2 big glasses of water today (32 oz. cup) so I am doing a little better each day with my water intake.

I wanted to note that I have not been checking my weight because that is always discouraging to me but my jeans feel a little looser today. So, that is good.

Food Journal-Day 23 (Heidi)

Today went better than my last two posts! Whew! I should say that in spite of being rather bored today and finding myself wandering into the kitchen, I forced myself to find things to do. I actually cleaned my sofa, vacuumed, washed all the removable covers, steam cleaned the rest, and re-stuffed the saggy cushions. It looks tons better and kept me out of the fridge.

Breakfast-grapenuts, banana. No sweetener today, and I am happy to report that I didn't miss it at all.

Snack- a serving of Wheat thins and an apple

Lunch- left over chicken fried steak from Shawn's dinner last night, about 5 oz and then about a cup and a half of sauteed zucchini (in Pam) with a little sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

Snack-a pudding cup (80 cals)

Dinner--3 egg rolls and later for dessert popcorn and a small piece of fudge.

Overall, still not super great, but not the terrible menu I've been forced to look at the past few days. I feel like I'm getting back on track. I also have been working on a to-do list for myself so that when I find myself wanting to snack on junk for no reason, I can redirect myself with something that needs to get done around here before I go back to school in August.

The couch was a great starting place and really worked.

Food Journal: Day 22 (Katie)

First off Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's out there!  I love Mother's Day as my husband is so good at making sure I get spoiled all day long!  Also, I didn't fret about food so this day (I'm pretty sure I say that everytime...) wasn't great, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been!

Breakfast:  I got breakfast in bed of made from scratch eggs benedict!  My husband has never made this and they were so yummy!  He even put them on lite whole wheat english muffins!  And I'll just ignore the hollandaise sauce. ;) A few strawberries, black berries and apple slices. A glass of apple juice.

Snack: I didn't have one because I slept through it! Ha!

Lunch:  A microwaveable steak and cheese sandwich (something we found at Costco) and a handful of nacho cheese Dorito's. A bottle of orange soda.

Snack: A bag of M&M's (my all time favorite candy that my husband brought me home last night) and a glass of ice water.

Dinner: Glazed ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans (lots of these, seriously, because they are without a doubt my favorite vegetable....possibly my favorite food all together!) and iced tea.

Desert: Half a carrot cake cupcake.  These were pretty large though, I got them at Costco.  I'd say half of it was about half a cup of cake and a quarter cup of frosting.  More iced tea.

Now I'm stuffed so I'll be done eating today for sure!  Wish me luck on getting to the grocery store ASAP this week or we'll be eating out too much!  Now that my baby girl is feeling (mostly) better we can stop being quarantined as the plague house and we might get out and about this week!

Food Journal- Day 21 (Kim)

Hello all! Super excited to be home and have our schedule back to normal. I am going to work on some sort of menu after I get the house back in order and have a few minutes to sit down and make a plan. I did make extra rice with dinner last night and we bagged the leftovers up and put them in the freezer so that we can use them for quick meals. I also think that I am going to cook all the ground beef that we have in the freezer and re-freeze it so that I can use it in quick recipes too.

So, being home is great and I have had the opportunity to eat with my family and cook for them which is very important to me.

Breakfast: Instant oatmeal and two slices of toast with jelly. I shared the oatmeal with Olivia and she ate a lot of it so I didn't get a full serving but I was still okay.

Snack:Granola square thing with peanut butter on it. I think it is the same thing that Katie can't stay out of only hers have dark chocolate on them.

Lunch: Turkey sandwich on white bread, sugar snap peas and two handfuls of original Lay's Potato chips.

Snack: Pudding cup with two graham cracker squares.

Dinner: Chinese noodles (spaghetti with pork, hard boiled egg, green onion and cream soup) and one ear of corn on the cob. I have to confess that even though I had the option of spray "butter", I opted for the real stuff on my corn but I used less than I normally do.

Snack: A few too many vanilla wafer cookies... I took the box, never a good plan for me.

I did a lot better with the water today! I drank 64 oz. of water and only 20 oz. of diet Pepsi! An improvement for me.

Thanks for the ideas for meal planning. I just need to get it organized. We are really trying hard to set a good example for our little one that is just starting to eat and to be more healthy ourselves while we are at it.

Oh, I also want you to know that I passed by the Ben and Jerry's at Target today, did not buy a rice crispy treat at the snack bar and ignored the candy bars at the check out. Pretty proud of myself today!

Food Journal-Day 20 (Heidi)

It would seem that I'm destined to write one shameful post after another. ;)

Today was not good. I'll admit. Generally it pretty much sucked right up until dinner at our friends home.

Prior to that? It was pretty blah. If you recall I mentioned I'm a boredom eater some time back? Yeah. That reared it's ugly bored head today, and I really struggled.

I had a bagel and cream cheese today. It would feel better if I could claim a whole wheat bagel and light cream cheese. But no. It was just a giant ball of white carbs with regular old fatty cream cheese. Looking back eating a load of craptastic carbs to kick off my day was probably not one of my better ideas.

I later had two fruit leather strips an apple and then still aimless and bored I made some popcorn. Before my snack I should add that I did a bunch of yard work, which led to a huge allergy attack that incidentally never got finished today, and just made me feel off. So I took an allergy med. Then I felt sleepy and weird. And bored. This is a BAD combination. No excuses here, just trying to set the scene. I have no will power.

Then I had some lunch a bit later, just a PBJ and about three glasses of water, my throat still felt pretty itchy from the pollen I blew around the yard with the blower.

For a late afternoon snack I had a handful of cinnamon almonds and a bowl of cereal.

Then, we went to our friends house for appetizers and desserts. All bets were off.

I didn't eat a ton, I had a handful of sour cream and onion chips, two little sausage hors d'oeuvres (that's all fancy because I can't spell that word and so it's a copy and paste from google.) and a serving (maybe on the large size) of cherry cobbler. Then I had a drink. My friend Chris had whipped cream vodka. Is she serious? Mixed with orange juice? To die for. I only had a small glass, but it was so good, seriously if you like whipped cream and drink alcohol, you should check this stuff out.

So over all, it wasn't *terrible*, but I spent the afternoon working on a to do list for myself, lest I fall into the boredom trap again.

Food Journal: Day 19 (Katie)

Today was not that great of a day all around.  My baby daughter has been sick all week and last night she just got worse.  By this morning she was dehydrated and lethargic and we had to follow a very particular food regimen to keep her out of the ER.  I was up all night either worried about her or cleaning her up and so I'm both stressed and exhausted.  Without further ado here is my day:

Breakfast: Carnation instant breakfast.

Snack: A can of Coke.

Lunch: Most of an 8 inch turkey sub from a local sandwich place, a small fry with ranch and a Dr. Pepper.

Snack: A handful of goldfish crackers and a glass of water.

Dinner: (Very late after a sleepy sick girl got laid down for the night)  A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, pretzels and a glass of milk.

Snack: I have every intention of eating a big spoon full of cookie dough!

My weight today is 151.2 lbs (down 1.2 lbs since I started :)  But at least it's not up!)

Hopefully tomorrow is a better day for all of us!

Food Journal: Day 18 (Kim)

I really don't have much to say today. It was just another day. Nothing super exciting or out of the ordinary (for me anyway). I did go out with my sisters tonight which is always fun and a nice break from everything else. I even feel like I made good choices for dinner.

Breakfast: I had room service this morning in the hospital while I was sitting with my little one. I had an omelet with mushrooms, onions, green peppers and swiss cheese. I also had cream of wheat with a little brown sugar and milk in it, some pan fried potatoes and watermelon. I know it was a huge breakfast but I woke up really hungry and I didn't eat anything else until lunch time.

Lunch: White rice with a little butter and soy sauce, teriyaki baked tofu and sugar snap peas (raw).

Dinner: I had a regular roast beef sandwich from Arby's and a side salad with about 1 tsp. of balsamic vinaigrette and a diet Dr. Pepper.

Snack: Well it was girls night and the only true consistency of  girls night (besides Target) is U-Swirl. I had to try something new since my usual flavor was not there anymore. I had chocolate and angel food cake swirled. And since I have very strange tastes (or so my sisters say) I had some gummy bears, Reece's Pieces and a cupcake shell. I did go lightly on the candy but probably should have left it off completely.

I did not drink enough water, or anything for that matter today. I really need to focus on drinking water...

I also need to set some goals for me and my family regarding eating out. We eat at restaurants way too often. I have tried making menu's and planning out the food for the week but this never seems to work because I am a mood eater and I really have to be in the mood for something and it is impossible to predict my mood. We also are on the go a lot so it is easier to grab and go at a drive thru. This has become a very important thing to me since our baby is now starting to want what we are eating and I want to set a good example for her about healthy eating habits. Any advice on creating and keeping to a healthy eating schedule and menu planning ideas would be great!

Food Journal-Day 17 (Heidi)

Ahhh, well we knew this day would come. The day of shame. The day you don't want to blog about. :)

It all started off ok. I had some cheerios and a banana. Then I took a nap after the kids went to school because I felt exhausted.

I got up, got ready and grabbed a Dr. Pepper on my way out the door. Met a friend for lunch today before he heads back to California for the summer.

We had lunch at BJ's Brewery (I think that's what its called). I love it there, I ordered the tomato bisque soup in the bread bowl. I only ate the soup at the top of the bowl. It was tasty. I should have stopped there. But then the waitress talked us into this pazoolie? I think it's called that. Basically a giant hot, gooey chocolate chip cookie with icecream on top. OMG. That was so damn good. And had to be a million calories. I was a good friend and let Matt eat more of it than I had, but still. So not proud. I told him that I had to blog this day and he just laughed at me. Matt and I usually just meet for coffee. That would have been much better for my blog day, skinny vanilla latte...or sourdough bread bowl and giant cookie covered in icecream. Oh well.

Sigh.

Then every week our husbands (mine, Katie's and Kim's) and a bunch of their friends gather to play board games and have dinner. Tonight was our night to host. I agreed to make eggrolls. They are deep fried. So yeah. But I did only have two, and  a serving of edamame. And all the boys were very happy. :) And that was it for me today.

I don't have any more room for any more food and I'm sure I've done enough damage for one day.

Food Journal- Day 16 (Katie)

It's Monday.  And we all know what that means!  Not only was work a nightmare but my husbands grandmother is still in town and so was his brother.  And though they were both very helpful at work there is still the stress of trying not to bore them to death and we of course ate out for lunch.  Also today my husband and my daughter weren't feeling well so that makes things more interesting too!

Breakfast: Carnation instant breakfast. (I swear that I have good intentions for eating something healthier for breakfast one of these days but I just never seem to have any time!)

Snack: A handful of pretzel sticks and a glass of water.

Lunch: Half an oriental chicken salad wrap at Mr.  Goodcents Subs and a cherry Dr. Pepper (a 22oz cup half full of ice).

Snack: My bag of chips (Lays BBQ) from lunch and a glass of water.

Dinner: A "California" burrito at a local Mexican restaurant called Macayo's.  Though I did have to laugh at their menu describing this as a "healthy" burrito...it contained rice, REFRIED beans!, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce and tomatoes.  Last time I almost all of those things fall under the "unhealthy" category.  My brother in law said things like that are supposed to be relative,  he said it was most likely meant to mean that eating only one is healthier than eating two.  Which is undoubtedly true.  And of course I ate the chips and salsa and guacamole before dinner and I had a Mt. Dew.

Snack: Hasn't happened yet but to be honest the tub of cookie dough in my fridge is calling for me.  So I'll probably eat a spoonful of that, though I promise not to eat more than 2 cookies worth! After this day I deserve it!

So what do you all do for quick (seriously quick!) breakfasts that also have good nutritional value?

Food Journal- Day 15 (Kim)

Hello all! Today was a pretty productive day all in all and I did okay on the food front. We are getting ready (hopefully) for discharge any day now so my stress level has been a little lower. However, today I have felt hungry all day. Even right after I finish a meal. Not sure what is up with that. So, considering that all my stomach wanted me to do all day was eat I feel like I didn't do too horribly. Breakfast- Carnation instant breakfast and a Greek yogurt. Snack- beef jerky. Lunch- homemade grilled hamburgers about 1/2 a serving of fries (made in the oven) and a pickle spear. (@ Katie, I have more pickle juice for you btw :) ). Snack- four graham cracker squares made into microwave s'mores using ten mini marshmallows and a chocolate kiss for two of them. Dinner- Rice-a-Roni, corn, Yakimandu (or as my husband like to call them, little Korean tacos) and a piece of Pretzel Challah. Snack- an orange and a string cheese. I didn't do as well with the water today, only about 30 oz. and I drank a 20 oz diet Pepsi and a glass ( about 12 oz.) of Code Red Mountain Dew. I also used about 16 oz of skim milk to make my breakfast. I am not sure why I am so hungry today... Hopefully it will pass. I am going to have a glass of water and go to bed.

Food Journal-Day 14 (Heidi)

Another day another post! Today was pretty average for me.

Breakfast- I just had a bowl of cheerios, in a bit of a hurry to get Evan out the door for an appointment. Nothing else. Grabbed a glass of water right before we headed out.

Lunch was REALLY late. We were busy until almost 1pm in town, so we stopped at Subway. Remember my lack of interest in turkey sandwiches? It still stands. I had an Italian BMT, which incidentally is not on their "good for you" list, but I can live with that. I also had baked chips and then I had a white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie. And a diet coke.

Then for snack later I had a handful of kettle corn and a fruit leather strip. I just was not hungry today.

Dinner- Shawn took me out while some friends took our kids. I actually was craving a salad, which is unusual. So we went to Sweet Tomatoes. If you don't know Sweet Tomatoes/Soup Plantation, it's just a really big salad bar buffet place with soups and breads and pastas. I loaded up on veggies, and then probably ruined it all with some ranch dressing (and not the nasty fat free stuff). But again, I can live with that. Because frankly I can't stay on task eating food that doesn't taste good to me. So I used regular, but in moderation. Then I got my usual corn bread muffin, honey butter whip, and some homemade chunky chicken noodle soup. I ate all of the salad, but my tastebuds must be off or something. The bread seemed dry and "meh" so I only ate half of the muffin. And the soup was mushy noodles and so I didn't even finish half of that (which I would guess was about a cup of soup). At any rate, it was a really low calorie, non-snacking kind of day.

If I could figure out how to duplicate my complete disinterest in food and lack of appetite into something like a regular basis, life would be sweet.

I'm assured based on my history that my appetite will return with a vengeance and will bring along it's friend Sweet Tooth.

Food Journal- Day 13 (Katie)

Well today wasn't that great but I also don't feel bad about it or regret it! So ha!  This week my husbands grandmother, Nadine, is here from out of town.  We don't see her very often and it's such a nice treat to spoil her and take her to all our favorite places.  Because as she says, "She likes everything!"  So my diet has not been the top priority since she's been here!

Breakfast- About a cup of strawberries dipped in whipped cream, Carnation Instant Breakfast (this is my coffee ;) )

Lunch- Leftover lasagna from dinner last night.  There was about a cup and a half.  Then I had about a 1/2 of ice cream from Cold Stone.  Diet Mt. Dew.

Snack- Banana and a glass of water (see, it wasn't all bad!)

Dinner- 7 Chicken wings.  This is definitely *not* the highlight of the day.  If any of you have ever had chicken wings while doing Weight Watchers you'll know that they are worth  THREE points each.  Ouch.  But today they were worth it because Grandma Nadine loved them!  We also had french fries, carrots and celery with ranch and a Dr. Pepper.

Snack I haven't had yet and since it's 9:30 there's a good chance I won't!  But I did get some really good tea at Teavana so I'll probably have some of that.

And since I haven't tracked it the last couple of posts my weight today was 151.3 lbs.  That's -1.1 lbs since my first post.  Not much but at least it didn't go up!

Food Journal- Day 12 (Kim)

Today has been a very stressful one for me. We are on day 23 at the hospital with the little one and it feels like we are going in a vicious circle. When will it end... unfortunately for me I am a stress eater so that was an even bigger challenge for me today than trying to keep my cool and not stress the kiddo's out. BUT... I feel like I did pretty good considering how many times today I craved chocolate and icecream.

Breakfast: Carnation instant breakfast with about 16 oz of skim milk and a banana.

Snack: Did not happen, it was a rough morning and as much as I wanted to snack on everything I could think of I resisted and stayed by my daughters side while she was having problems.

Lunch: Oven "fried" chicken and coleslaw from the cooking light section of the hospital cafeteria and some watermellon.

Snack: Jerky and one string cheese.

Dinner: About a third of a Machaca meal from a little hole in the wall mexican reastaraunt. I had no idea what I was getting when I ordered the lady did not describe it well at all. She said it was shredded beef with green peppers, onions, tomatoes and chili's cooked into it, it was actually shredded beef, green peppers, onions, chilis and scrambled eggs. It was very good but enough food for at least two people so I will probably have it again tomorrow.

So far I have not had a snack tonight, nor do I think I will. I am still pretty full from dinner. I did ok with the water today, about 30 oz. I also had a 16 oz. Diet Dr. Pepper. I am also working on another glass of water right now and am sure I will finish it and maybe part of another one before bed. I am feeling very thirsty tonight.

Food Journal Day 11-(Heidi)

Today was rough. I'll admit. It was long, I was exhausted, and I still am.

For breakfast I started the day off right. I had a bowl of Grapenuts and used a little stevia on it. I forgot to eat my banana though.

Then the day got crazy. My 8 yo came down with very red itchy eyes, the kind that looks suspiciously like pink eye...and so we threw together everything for the day (which of course did not include a snack or my water bottle) and ran out the door to get him to the clinic before I had class. It was indeed pink eye. I wound up taking him with me to school (I promise I didn't let him touch anything and doused him repeatedly in hand sanitizer, but some times there are no options).

After we did all of that we got lunch at In-N-Out. I ate a cheeseburger and 1/3 of the order of fries we got to share and a diet coke.

We also had some caramels in the car, and I had a few of those.

When I got home I was in study mode, but tired so I had some popcorn and and an apple.

Dinner was a tostada with some refried beans, ground turkey, and lettuce and a little cheese. And a glass of strawberry milk. (I have never been able to resist that from the age of 2).

It's 8pm and I'm still dragging, but trying to ignore it and just plow through the stuff I have to study. Next time I post I will be done with school for the summer and hopefully able to focus better and also have time to prep stuff in the kitchen! Here's to a healthier summer of eating! :)

And as usual I had a ton of water. I don't know how much, I'm working on my fourth glass that holds 2 cups. I'm sure I'll get through at least one, probably two more.

Days like this are the days that are hard to journal, I must admit. I just want to throw in the towel, graze on crappy food all day to try and boost my mood and my energy levels, and so this has really forced me to think twice before I put something in my mouth. Sharing with the world is a pretty decent motivator!
