Food Journal: Day 22 (Katie)

First off Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's out there!  I love Mother's Day as my husband is so good at making sure I get spoiled all day long!  Also, I didn't fret about food so this day (I'm pretty sure I say that everytime...) wasn't great, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been!

Breakfast:  I got breakfast in bed of made from scratch eggs benedict!  My husband has never made this and they were so yummy!  He even put them on lite whole wheat english muffins!  And I'll just ignore the hollandaise sauce. ;) A few strawberries, black berries and apple slices. A glass of apple juice.

Snack: I didn't have one because I slept through it! Ha!

Lunch:  A microwaveable steak and cheese sandwich (something we found at Costco) and a handful of nacho cheese Dorito's. A bottle of orange soda.

Snack: A bag of M&M's (my all time favorite candy that my husband brought me home last night) and a glass of ice water.

Dinner: Glazed ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans (lots of these, seriously, because they are without a doubt my favorite vegetable....possibly my favorite food all together!) and iced tea.

Desert: Half a carrot cake cupcake.  These were pretty large though, I got them at Costco.  I'd say half of it was about half a cup of cake and a quarter cup of frosting.  More iced tea.

Now I'm stuffed so I'll be done eating today for sure!  Wish me luck on getting to the grocery store ASAP this week or we'll be eating out too much!  Now that my baby girl is feeling (mostly) better we can stop being quarantined as the plague house and we might get out and about this week!

Food Journal: Day 19 (Katie)

Today was not that great of a day all around.  My baby daughter has been sick all week and last night she just got worse.  By this morning she was dehydrated and lethargic and we had to follow a very particular food regimen to keep her out of the ER.  I was up all night either worried about her or cleaning her up and so I'm both stressed and exhausted.  Without further ado here is my day:

Breakfast: Carnation instant breakfast.

Snack: A can of Coke.

Lunch: Most of an 8 inch turkey sub from a local sandwich place, a small fry with ranch and a Dr. Pepper.

Snack: A handful of goldfish crackers and a glass of water.

Dinner: (Very late after a sleepy sick girl got laid down for the night)  A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, pretzels and a glass of milk.

Snack: I have every intention of eating a big spoon full of cookie dough!

My weight today is 151.2 lbs (down 1.2 lbs since I started :)  But at least it's not up!)

Hopefully tomorrow is a better day for all of us!

Food Journal- Day 16 (Katie)

It's Monday.  And we all know what that means!  Not only was work a nightmare but my husbands grandmother is still in town and so was his brother.  And though they were both very helpful at work there is still the stress of trying not to bore them to death and we of course ate out for lunch.  Also today my husband and my daughter weren't feeling well so that makes things more interesting too!

Breakfast: Carnation instant breakfast. (I swear that I have good intentions for eating something healthier for breakfast one of these days but I just never seem to have any time!)

Snack: A handful of pretzel sticks and a glass of water.

Lunch: Half an oriental chicken salad wrap at Mr.  Goodcents Subs and a cherry Dr. Pepper (a 22oz cup half full of ice).

Snack: My bag of chips (Lays BBQ) from lunch and a glass of water.

Dinner: A "California" burrito at a local Mexican restaurant called Macayo's.  Though I did have to laugh at their menu describing this as a "healthy" burrito...it contained rice, REFRIED beans!, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce and tomatoes.  Last time I almost all of those things fall under the "unhealthy" category.  My brother in law said things like that are supposed to be relative,  he said it was most likely meant to mean that eating only one is healthier than eating two.  Which is undoubtedly true.  And of course I ate the chips and salsa and guacamole before dinner and I had a Mt. Dew.

Snack: Hasn't happened yet but to be honest the tub of cookie dough in my fridge is calling for me.  So I'll probably eat a spoonful of that, though I promise not to eat more than 2 cookies worth! After this day I deserve it!

So what do you all do for quick (seriously quick!) breakfasts that also have good nutritional value?

Food Journal- Day 13 (Katie)

Well today wasn't that great but I also don't feel bad about it or regret it! So ha!  This week my husbands grandmother, Nadine, is here from out of town.  We don't see her very often and it's such a nice treat to spoil her and take her to all our favorite places.  Because as she says, "She likes everything!"  So my diet has not been the top priority since she's been here!

Breakfast- About a cup of strawberries dipped in whipped cream, Carnation Instant Breakfast (this is my coffee ;) )

Lunch- Leftover lasagna from dinner last night.  There was about a cup and a half.  Then I had about a 1/2 of ice cream from Cold Stone.  Diet Mt. Dew.

Snack- Banana and a glass of water (see, it wasn't all bad!)

Dinner- 7 Chicken wings.  This is definitely *not* the highlight of the day.  If any of you have ever had chicken wings while doing Weight Watchers you'll know that they are worth  THREE points each.  Ouch.  But today they were worth it because Grandma Nadine loved them!  We also had french fries, carrots and celery with ranch and a Dr. Pepper.

Snack I haven't had yet and since it's 9:30 there's a good chance I won't!  But I did get some really good tea at Teavana so I'll probably have some of that.

And since I haven't tracked it the last couple of posts my weight today was 151.3 lbs.  That's -1.1 lbs since my first post.  Not much but at least it didn't go up!

Food Journal -Day 10 (Katie)

This post might be short and sweet.  I'm so tired from working so much already this week and getting ready for a visit from my husbands grandmother that I can barely keep my eyes open!

Breakfast: Due to waking up late I didn't really get breakfast today.  I had a cup of hot chocolate at work and a handful of pretzel sticks.

Snack: a chocolate covered granola thing I found at Costco.  I can't think of what it is called off the top of my head but I do remember it was 70 calories. It was also super delicious!

Lunch: I ate a salad (yes! you read that right!).  It had lots of dark green lettuces, 2 sweet peppers, a handful of baby carrots, 5 or 6 grape tomatoes and about 2 oz of chicken breast.  I had ranch on it too, which I know is not the best but I keep forgetting to take my italian dressing to the office!

Snack:  Another chocolate covered granola thing (they were calling me all day!) and a banana. Also a vitamin water.

Dinner: Spaghetti with meat sauce (about 1/2 cup, it was free dinner at my kids school and they weren't feeling all that generous in an attempt to not run out!), a salad with italian dressing and a small piece of garlic bread.  I also had one vanilla sandwich cookie.  I had two cookies but a certain two year old I live with made off with my other one! And a Diet Mt. Dew.

Snack:  I'm feeling starved right now and fighting off some serious cravings.  I'm have a few pretzels and about 1/2 cup of low fat cottage cheese.  I will probably also eat a piece of fruit.  I just haven't decided if it's worth staying awake for!

Also of note today is that lovely Aunt Flo is visiting.  So at least that explains the desire for sleep and chocolate!

Food Journal-Day 7 (Katie)

This day was not that great.  And this post might follow suit since I'm in a bit of a hurry.  I had to work today, like most Saturdays, and I was there from a little after 9 to a little after 5.  Then we went home and had dinner and got kids in bed and now I'm here again.  And I'll probably be here a while.  So that being said you'll have to forgive my brevity and poor food choices alike.

Breakfast: The usual, Carnation Instant Breakfast and an apple.

Snack: 2 Samoa girl scout cookies

Lunch: Left over fajitas from On The Border.  It was just meat and veggies (chicken, beef and peppers, onions, and some squash) with 3 small flour tortillas.  A bit of rice and refried beans.  Diet Mt. Dew.

Snack- A small handful of pretzel crackers and a Vitamin Water.

Another Snack- (we had a really late dinner!)  This was partially my husbands fault as it was his idea and also clearly contributed to our late dinner, we went to Dairy Queen where I had a small blizzard.  It crossed my mind to get one of their "Mini" blizzards but I honestly have no willpower.  And we almost never go there!

Dinner- Grilled boneless, skinless, (tasteless) chicken breast, "shells and cheese" (you know, the kind with white cheese sauce?) I  hardly got any of that though because my kids love it, and some yellow and zucchini squash sauteed in a bit of olive oil spray.  Glass of milk.

Now that I'm back at work I'm drinking a Red Bull (though this time I'll take full responsibility).  And I will probably have something later but I'll make sure it's after midnight so I don't have to record it! ;)

I do have good news though!  On the suggestion of a friend I bought a salad spinner!  Now I have to hit the store tomorrow so I can get some fixin's and I can bring a salad to work so said friend doesn't make me look bad with her salad!

Food Journal- Day 4 (Katie)

I had all these fantasies over the last two days about how I was going to have a great day and eat healthy and prove to everyone that I could do it if I tried.  But it turns out that when I'm super busy that I don't try that hard.  Work has been chaos for two months now and having been out half of both Monday and Tuesday (to go to the fair and to chaperone my second graders field trip ~to a farm to talk about eating healthy of all things~) Wednesday was particularly hard at work.

Breakfast:  I started off with my usual Carnation Instant Breakfast.  I grabbed an apple on my way out the door but by the time I dropped off the oldest at school and ran a couple errands I had forgotten all about it and it got too hot.  I put it in the fridge but not until later in the day.  (But hey! It's still there so I can eat it tomorrow!).

Snack: I drank a Red Bull.  It's my husbands fault.  He bought it and I have no will power when those things are around.

Lunch: A frozen meal with a fish fillet and some macaroni and cheese.  It wasn't even very good.

Snack: Banana (YAY! A fruit!)

Dinner: A Beach Club at Jimmie John's with BBQ chips and a big ol' regular Dr. Pepper.

Dessert: About 6 oz of fat free, 25 calories per ounce, Tart Frozen Yogurt with blueberries and kiwi on top.

A few notes:

1. It was Girls Night.  Every Wednesday my sisters and I go out to dinner and shopping.  We also always get frozen yogurt.  I usually load it up with candy and chocolate syrup so tonight I was good and only had fruit.  It was delicious and I felt pretty good about it!

2. I should have had iced tea at dinner.  I often drink tea but for some reason tonight I just wanted that Dr. Pepper.  I think I could cut out a lot of calories (at least when I eat out, I drink Diet Mt. Dew at work) if I only allowed myself to have tea unless it was a special occasion.

3. I need to plan better for food at work.  I need to make a menu plan for lunches.

4.  I really need to eat more fruits and vegetables!

Today my weight was 152.2.  This was a change of -0.2lbs! Ha! And I even went to the fair!

Food Journal - Day 1 (Katie)

The first day falls to me, Katie.  Welcome to our blog!  If you didn't read the introductory post feel free to go check that out first for a little background information.

We decided to do our first 100 days as a food journal. Like I said before our initial discussions centered around this blog being health related. So while we debated the virtues of giving up sugar or soda or chocolate we eventually came to the conclusion that we needed a way to define our weaknesses.  We are all overweight so weight loss methods are something we've all read up on (if not implemented, ahem) and we all know that nearly every diet or lifestyle change plan tells you the first thing to do is to write down what you eat.  This makes you accountable.  I'm hoping that this will make me accountable because I'm currently gaining weight at an unprecedented rate (except for the three times I was pregnant, but I assure you that is not my excuse this time!).  In fact I've decided to post my weight (eek!) for all to see just to satisfy my own morbid curiosity if just being accountable to someone or something will help me make better choices, and hopefully, lose some weight.

So far though, it didn't work very well.  Despite knowing I was going to have to write this all down I still ate all this today:

Breakfast:
Carnation Instant breakfast in about 16 ounces of 2% milk and a banana.

Snack:
A handful of Cheez-it crackers and a little pack of dinosaur fruit snacks I stole from the kids.  A Diet Mt. Dew.

Lunch:
A Healthy Choice Steamers (lemon chicken).

Snack:
An Orange Dream Eegee's (for those of you outside Arizona you won't know what this is...but it is heaven and it is frozen and it is kind of like a slushy.  Only they tell you it contains vitamins and real fruit so it is healthy!--Shut up!)  Some more Cheez-it crackers, and a Fruit and Grain cereal bar.

Dinner:
Something my mom makes and calls "Oriental Chicken Salad".  It has some chicken breast, some cabbage, some oil of some kind, sesame seeds and probably some other things too but I've never made it so I'm not really sure.  But it's really yummy!  I had some Ritz crackers with that and  a glass of chocolate milk.

Dessert: A slice of angel food cake with whipped cream and a scoop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup.  (some of this was reduced sugar I bet, since I was at my moms and my dad is diabetic)

Snack (again):
A smoothie made with berries, vanilla Greek yogurt, a scoop of raspberry sorbet, orange juice and ice.  A hard boiled egg.

Oh boy!  Looking through that makes me feel full. (which is probably sort of the point).  I clearly need to cut down on snacking on junk (WHERE are the fruits and veggies?!?) and probably cut down on sugar.

Today my weight is:  152.4

And now I'll be passing the honor on to Heidi who gets to do her first post all about eating at the county fair...hopefully she won't feel too restricted and can feel better the next time she posts!
